WAD condemns alleged rape

IMPHAL, June 13: The Women Action for Development (WAD) strongly condemns the repeated alleged rape of a 13 years old visually impaired student on April 14, 2014, said a press release signed by the organisation’s coordinator, Tuithung Aphy.

It is very unfortunate that the women and girls of the state are frequently subjected to rape, murder, torture etc, it said while adding that during January 1 to May 31, this year, a total of 18 cases of rape have been reported in the local dailies.

WAD strongly opposes all these increasing crimes and would further initiate appropriate steps which are deemed to be fit for prevention and elimination of the crimes against women and girls, it said before appreciating the police for the arrest of the prime accused in the case, chowkidar Him Bahadur Thapa alias Khansa, while demanding immediate investigation into the incident.
