IMPHAL, July 1: The dead body of a man was found early this morning around 5 near a canal at Yairipok Singda which is about 4 km west from Yairipok Police station.
The victim has been identified as one Hidam Boby, 35, son of (L) H Shamo of Keirao Langdum at present staying at Yairipok Bhamon Leikai.
He is survived by two sons and a wife and by profession a construction labour.
Sources said that bruise marks were found on his back and hands.
He had gone out from his home around 9 last night after having dinner to have pan on his bicycle which is also still missing. The corpse has been deposited at JNIMS morgue.
Meanwhile, a Joint Action Committee was formed in connection with the incident, which has called a 28-hour general strike from 5 am tomorrow till 5am of July 3 in Yairipok area, denouncing the killing and demanding the arrest of the perpetrator.
The JAC against the killing of Hidam Boby Meitei was formed during a public meeting convened today at Bhamon Leikai Mandop.
