“Bakeries flaunting food safety regulations”

IMPHAL, July 15: Majority of the bakeries in the State capital are not only flaunting the regulations set by the Food Safety department, but those holding licence issued by the department were found to be more unhygienic than those operating without licences, said Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System, Student Wing convenor Moirangthem Angamba. In a press meet called at their Nongmeibung office after an inspection of several bakeries in the State capital today, Angamba said the items baked in the bakeries are unsafe and unhygienic. He demanded the government to look into the issue at the earliest and said if left unchecked for long; it could turn into a major health hazard. The government should also issue health cards to the bakeries after ensuring that they follow the regulations and norms. The labourers or workers at the bakeries should also carry health cards, he said. The concerned department need to look into the issue and shut down any bakery found flaunting safety and hygiene guidelines. The committee convener in the meantime also announced that several bakeries found in unhygienic manners were shut down. He identified the bakeries as Soma, Payal Bujiya, Pakapa bakeries in Thangmeiband area; Sompa, Chaka, Ima, Balajee, Sathi, Sanjeev, Dev bakeries in Bapupara, Sangeeta, Super bakeries in Moirangkhom.
