Human Care Foundation extends help to victims of a blaze

IMPHAL, July 4: The Human Care Foundation, Khonghampat along with the locals of Santipur village in Awang Leikinthabi has extended financial help and mental support on Friday to the family of Hijam Ishokumar of Awang Leikinthabi Santipur under Lamsang Kendra whose house was engulfed by a blaze.

According to Hijam Ishokumar, the incident occurred on the wee hours of June 20 while his family members were watching the Fifa world cup in his neighbour’s house.

“All the ornaments, furniture including all the books of my children were gutted in the fire. Now, we are facing various hardships but the help of the local club, Meirapaibis and social worker Laishram Boby of the Human Care Foundation, Khonghampat give us some relief. But how far they can help us in the long run?”

Continuing that he is waiting for some help from the local MLA, Zila Parishad and the government, he said the family lost around 75 thousand rupees and three rooms were totally damaged while four rooms were totally partially damaged.

Stating that the village of the victims under Lamshang Kendra was located around 19 Km away from Imphal, Laishram Boby said even if the local MLA Dr Brajabidhu and other concerned authorities have been urged to provide help to the victims there have been no positive response till date.

Unfortunately, the fire service and the Police station were not informed about the incident on time. The local people succeeded in controlling the fire from further destroying the house, she added.

She said that the Human Care Foundation, Khonghampat joined villagers of Leikinthabi Santipur in providing financial support to the victim’s family, adding that the family awaits help from the government and a befitting compensation.
