IMPHAL, July 1: The Maoist Communist Party of Manipur has claimed the responsibility of bomb threat at the Haobam Marak Irom Leikai residence of Mongjam Abhiram, Dy Director of Manipur Aids Control Sociaty (MACS).

The banned outfit in a statement signed by its Secretary Publicity and Propaganda, Nonglen Meitei has alleged Abhiram of involving in embezzlement of huge funds meant for HIV/AIDS, for people who are living with it.

It said the bomb threat was the ultimate warning to Abhiram for his alleged involvement in embezzlement of funds meant for the welfare of people who are living with HIV/AIDS, particularly for those who are staying in far flung areas in the hills and elsewhere.

The embezzlement was carried out defying the guidelines of NACO. MACS in 2010, under the Society For Promotion of Youth and Masses picked out 7 NGOs in a wrongful manner. An amount of 4 Crores is alleged to be swindled off by Abhiram in cohorts with the 7 NGOs, said the statement.

It further alleged that a few scrupulous groups are working hand in glove with the colonial Indian army, who on the other hand are protecting the drug smugglers in the state.

The party has sought action from the authority concerned to take action against those who are involved in the scandal, if not the party will launch stern action, added the statement.
