Man shot at over monetary demand

LAMKA, July 16: A chowkidar of a brick firm was shot at his lower left leg last night around 8 by suspected UG cadre operating in the area.

The man has been identified as Tongneh, 53 son of (L) Ngulkhothong of D Phailian, Lamka who works is a Chowkidar at the GL Brick Field located at Bualzang Village, CCpur district.

He said he was first called out by three persons and made to follow them before shooting at him.

The attack is said to be related to monetary demand.

He was later brought to the Churachandpur District Hospital by the owner of the brickfield around 8.30pm.

Meanwhile, family members claimed that doctors at the hospital agreed to operate on him only after the family pressurised.

They claimed he was operated upon around 12.45pm today.

On the other hand, the owner of the brick farm, Lalboi said he had received a demand letter of Rs 5 lakh along with a mobile number to contact them.

However, the mobile number is found to be not in use, he continued.

He said atleast 80 workers work in his field.

Meanwhile reliable sources have said that the UG group involved in the shooting is the non SoO signatory group Kuki National Liberation Army (KNLA) who were also allegedly involved in the burning of a petrol pump at Tuibuang on July 8, 2014.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that the CHurachandpur Police has lodged an FIR No 74 (7) 2014 CCP-PS U/S 326/307/400/334 IPC & 25 (1-C) Act on the case.
