No respite in ILP movement, schools and colleges closed down

IMPHAL, July 24: The government has ordered educational institutions in the twin districts of Imphal to remain close considering the present situation of student bodies agitating in demand of ILP implementation in the State.

An official order has notified immediate closure of all educational institutions in the State including schools, all government, aided and private colleges including government polytechnic and other higher institutions on July 25, 26 and 28.

Seperate orders have been notified by deputy secretary of Hr & Tech Edu, Y Dimbajit Singh, and joint secretary Edu (S) Abdus Salam.

It is mentioned that considering the various agitations spearheaded by some students’ organisation which is increasingly turning dangerous for the students themselves as reported by the concerned SPs and DCs of the districts, the government has taken the decision in the interest of protecting the students.

Meanwhile, protesting the non-implementation of Inner Line Permit System in the State, thousands of students took out rallies in different parts of State.

Students were seen moving towards the New Assembly building shouting their demand as the Assembly session was on.

The rally was intercepted by the State Police forces near the Watham Leirak machin.

Hundreds of student of MB College, DM College, Ananda Higher Secondary School collectively tried to stormed the ongoing Assembly sesion.

The students also burnt an effigy of State Chief Minister Ibobi and shouted slogans.

The rally turned ugly when students started pelting stones to the police personnel.

The road stretching from Khoyathong roundabout to New Assembly building was paralysed for a few hours.

Tear gas shells and smoke bombs were fired by the security forces in an attempt to control the agitating students.

Around 32 students suffered injuries and 50 of them were picked up by the police.

The injured were rushed to Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences, Porompat Imphal, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Lamphelpat Imphal and Raj Medicity, North AOC Imphal for treatment.

On the other hand students from St Peter School and Pitambara English School protested in front of the residence of Naoria Pakhanglakpa MLA RK Anand. While student body of Lilong Higher Secondary School blocked National Highway and Standard Robert Higher Secondary School, Little Rose and Sika School students turned out and temporarily blocked vehicular movements in front road of Standard Robert School.
