IMPHAL, July 16: Faculty members and students of the National Institute of Electronic and Information Technology (NIELIT) staged a sit in protest today at the institute’s Akampat campus, decrying against the frequent demand letter served to the institute by armed militants.

Speaking to the media, Ng Anita, PA, NEILIT said that the underground outfits have been demanding money from the institute for quite long.

This has only affected the academic career of the youth, she said. Not only the youth, but even the the official staff are facing problems due to the demands, she added.

Frequent monetary demands from the armed militants mean that even the staff are not getting their salaries on time, she said.

The institute and its students strongly condemned the threats, she said.
