Food safety authority bans ‘Diamond Packaged Water’ in Manipur

Imphal, August 22: Selling of Diamond packaged water processed and manufactured by M/s BK Enterprise, Wangkhei has been banned, by the designated officer, (FSA)/ CMO, Imphal East.

Sources informed that on August 21, Y Satyajeet Singh Food Safety Officer Imphal West and Th Sunilkumar Singh Food Safety Officer Churachandpur conducted a routine inspection at RIMS road.

During the inspection, they found some shops selling the said packaged water under the name Diamond (pure Kitchen water) in 20 litre jar and 250 ml pack without BIS certificate and food safety License.

Accordingly the two officers immediately informed the designated officer Food Safety Dr Puspa Rai, Imphal East for further action and following which the ban order was issued.

According to an official notification of the designated officer Food Safety, Section 23 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 states that no person shall manufacture, distribute, or expose for sale or dispatch or deliver to any agent or broker for the purpose of sale, any packaged food products which are not marked and labeled in the manner as may be specified by regulations.

It said as per Section 31(1) of FSSA, 2006 – No person shall commence or carry on any food business except under license.

The official notification has also said that violation of the order will be liable for punishment (Offence & penalties) under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
