Patriots’ Day observed at Pune

IMPHAL, August 14: The Association of Manipuri Diaspora (AMAND), Pune and the Manipur Students’ Association Pune (MSAP) jointly paid homage to the gallant martyrs of Manipur who made the supreme sacrifice to protect their motherland from the colonial designs of British government, on August 13, the 123rd Patriots’ Day, at the Arihant Institute of Management Studies, Camp, Pune, said a AMAND press release.

It said, commemorating the sacrifices made during Anglo-Manipuri War in 1891 by the patriots of Manipur, a large number of Manipuris from the city paid their homage to Bir Tikendrajit, Thangal General and Paona Brajabasi.

(Retd) Major KY Singh, (retd) Captain NK Singh, Dr H Narendra Singh, senior scientist, IITM, government of India, N Giridhar Singh, senior scientist and joint director, DRDO, government of India, (Retd) WO TP Singh, professor Atish Chochordia, director, AIMS were among the dignitaries who paid floral tributes to the martyrs, said the press release.

M Anthony, president, MSAP said the observance of this proud moment of Patriots’ Day in this metro city not only reminds us of the relentless strength and valour of our forefathers but also modulates our courage to serve our motherland, while, Er N Giridhar Singh, joint secretary, AMAND, Pune emphasized the need for reassurance towards the welfare of the State as a mark of respect to the brave forefathers of the land.

A two-minutes silence was also observed as a mark of respect to the departed souls, said the press release.
