Three killed several injured in day of devastating road mishaps

IMPHAL, August 17: Two brothers died at the spot while a son of the elder brother received serious head injuries when their vehicle collided with a passenger vehicle coming from the opposite direction.

The incident happened this morning around 6:30 along the Tiddim Road near the Oinam playground under Nambol Police.

The dead have been identified as Gurumayum Pritamkumar alias Kala, 45 and his younger brother Geet alias Guna, 32, both sons of Gurumayum Gunamani Sharma of Nongmeibung Seram Leirak.

The injured identified G Athouba Sharma, 13 son of deceased G Pritamkumar Sharma has been admitted at the Shija Hospital and Research Institute.

The three were going towards Bishnupur in a Tata Super-S bearing regd number MN 06 L 6524 which collided with a Canter bus bearing regd number MN 01 1569.

None of the passengers in the canter were injured during the mishap.

Meanwhile, the Nambol Police have registered a case in this connection and recovered both vehicles involved in the mishap.

The dead bodies have been handed over to family members after post mortem at the RIMS morgue.

Meanwhile, another head on collision between a Bolero jeep and a canter bus left nine persons injured two of them seriously this noon.

A Bolero jeep driven by a 21 year old with a 20 year old girl in the front passenger seat hit head on with a passenger canter bus along the Imphal-Moreh Highway near Wangjing Uningkhong injuring the two Bolero occupants seriously.

The canter bearing regd number MN 02 A 1991 was coming towards Imphal from Kakching while the Bolero bearing regd number MN 05 A 1620 was proceeding towards Kakching.

The two Bolero occupants identified as Takhellambam Chinglen, 21 son of (L) Kamdeva of Ngaisong Khullen, Bishnupur and Kharibam Anu Devi, 20 daughter of Nimaichand of Charangpat Maning Leikai, Thoubal are presently undergoing treatment at the Shija Hopsitals and Research Institute.

The impact of the collision was such that the whole front portion of the Bolero was crushed into its body and the two occupants remained trapped inside the vehicle.

Locals in the area responded quickly to the collision and tried to free the two trapped inside the tangled vehicle, but to no avail.

The accident also blocked vehicle movement along the busy highway creating a massive traffic jam.

Soon, Thoubal commando team 48 arrived at the scene and tried to rescue the two Bolero occupants. When all their attempts turned futile, they called a JCB from Wangjing and expanded the tangled part of the Bolero to pull out the two.

The commando team rushed them to Thoubal district hospital where they were given first aid and then referred to RIMS.

However, after their conditions deteriorated, they were taken to Shija Hospitals and Research Institute.

Meanwhile, the seven other injured passengers of the bus were taken to Public Hospital, Wangjing and Raj Medicity, North AOC and later discharged.

In yet another unrelated incident, a two-year old boy hit by a Tata Sumo yesterday near Litan bazar along the Imphal-Ukhrul road succumbed to his injuries today at Shija Hospital.

The young boy identified as Kangabam Yaiphaba son of K Sharat Singh of Kwakeithel and presently staying at the PWD quarter was hit by a Tata Sumo bearing regd number MN 07 L 0361 yesterday around 5:15pm.

The Litan police have registered a case in this regard and seized the Tata Sumo involved in the accident, while the body has been handed over to his parents after post mortem was conducted at the RIMS morgue.
