Tiddim bandh call off following agreement

BISHNUPUR, August 8: The indefinite bandh imposed along the Tiddim road by the JAC formed in connection with the death of Phairenbam Nabachandra since 6 pm yesterday has been called off following an understanding reached this evening.

The understanding was the outcome of a joint meeting convened this evening at the Moirang police station. The meeting was reportedly attended by JAC, dececased family of Nanachandra, students’ representatives, Moirang MLA, SP and OC Bishnupur.

During the meeting the Moirang MLA and SP Bishnpur, agreed to compensate for the death Nabachandra besides to bear the medical expenses for the students who were injured in police action in yesterday protest agitation.

Meanwhile, the CrPC 144 imposed within the Moirang Municipal Council was also lifted by the authority concerned.

It may be recalled that Phairenbam Nabachandra, 18, son of Ph Lukhoi of Thanga presently staying at Moirang Patlou succumbed to injuries sustained while trying to pacify a fight between a mohori and his labourers on August 5 at the under construction water supply scheme, Moirang Chengei Lampak.

He was a class XI student of Moirang Multipurpose Higher Secondary School.
