By R Lester Makang

UKHRUL, August 14: Denouncing the callous attitude of the State government, the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) is all set to enforce a 24-hour total shutdown throughout Ukhrul district beginning from midnight tonight.

“We have called this shutdown to show our anguish over the prevailing situation deliberately created by the State government, “TNL general secretary said while adding that despite repeated appeal for revoking the Prohibitory Order as well as withdrawal of reinforced military presence, the government has failed to respond.”

He also said that under this circumstance where the rights of the people is being put at stake, there is no point of celebrating Independence Day under the State government.

“We therefore call upon all public members not to take part in the 15 August observance.”

Elaborating on the total bandh which comes into effect from midnight of August 14 and will continue till midnight of August 15, Dickson said that apart from the district headquarters, all block-level organizations and village chiefs have also been asked to ensure adherence during the bandh.
