Asiad bronze medalist Sanathoi returns home

IMPHAL, September 27: Yumnam Sanathoi Devi, the Asian Games bronze medalist in Wushu was accorded a warm welcome today at the Tulihal airport.

She bagged the bronze medal in Wushu (Shanshou 52 kg category) event in the ongoing 17th Asian Games, which is being held at Incheon, South Korea.

The bronze medalist along with two other players, W Sandhyarani and Y Sapana, who also participated in the Asiad, along with technical officer M Sachidananda were received by Wushu Association of Manipur, WAM, officials of SAI, players, coaches of various sports discipline, including relatives and family members at the Imphal Airport.

Interacting with the media, Sanathoi said it is not a big achievement, but feel proud to get the medal for the country and as well as for the State.

Explaining the reason for her defeat in the quarter final to a Chinese opponent, Sanathoi said she had no time to discuss with her coach regarding her opponent`™s technique and tactics.

This was because the practicing area was located some two hours`™ drive from the Game Village.

Sanathoi gave credit to her coaches and her mother for the medal.

She said she will soon be leaving for Indonesia for the International Shanshou Cup, which would be held at the end of October this year.

Two other players, W Sandhyarani and Chandra will also take part in the cup, she added.

The Asiad broze medalist is the daughter of (L) Yumnam Samungou and Y (O) Mema Devi, from Yairipok Top Chingtha. She had bagged silver medal in the World Wushu Championship, 2011 held at Turkey also.
