Imphal, September 20: Maibam Dhanabir, son the late Hiyanglam MLA Maibam Kunjo, will contest the bye-election of the Hiyanglam Assembly Constituency as the BJP Manipur Pradesh candidate on October 17.
This was announced today at around 3:30 pm in New Delhi after the meeting of the central election committee. BJP Manipur Pradesh president Thounaojam Chaoba and State executive member Premananda attended the central election committee meeting. It may be mentioned that the president of the BJP Manipur Pradesh and its executive members had convened a meeting on September 13. During the meeting, some concrete resolutions were taken for the Hiyanglam by-poll after vetting the electoral chances of the various candidates in the fray. Apart from Maibam Dhanabir, Ashokumar and Dr Y Radheshyam who contested the last general elections as a CPI candidate were vying for the BJP ticket.
An official source said that the state election management committee member led by Chaoba went to Delhi for officially announcing the name of the candidate in the bye poll.
