IMPHAL, September 19: In a gruesome incident, the former vice-president of the Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) was found bludgeoned to death by militant suspects.
The incident comes barely a days after the blast in Ukhrul that killed two persons including a former president of the Tnagkhul Sanao Long, (TSL).
The murdered man, Ngamreishang Ningsen, 38, is the son of Ns Truesome of Alang Village Phungyar sub-division, Ukhrul district. He is survived by a child and wife.
Ningsen held the post of vice president of Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) during 2009-2011, and is currently an executive of Kho Kho Long.
Sources said that the deceased was last seen at Khuman Lampak area on September 17. The same day around 10 am he visited a relative near Khuman Lampak bus terminus and had lunch before leaving for his native village.
Later today his body was found near Don Bosco school, Theiyong village under Lamlai police station.
The victim was found blind folded with red handkerchief and hands tied on his back.
He was bludgeoned to death using a blunt object. Police also have taken into custody a wooden block with blood stains recovered from the spot, believed to be used in committing the crime.
The corpse was retrieved by the police around 1.25 pm after proper inquest.
Meanwhile, family sources suspected the hand of a hill based militant in the killing as the deceased had received threats from the group for allegedly being an informer of security personnel.
However, they declined to disclose the name of the militant group.
The sources further disclosed that two members of the militant group were killed during an operation conducted by security forces in April for which the militant group blamed the deceased.
Our Ukhrul Correspondent adds: The Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) has strongly condemned the the killing of its former vice-president Ngamreishang Ningshen of Alang village under Phungyar sub-division in Ukhrul district by unknown persons while also offering its deepest sympathy and condolences to the bereaved family of the deceased.
In its condemnation note, the apex Tangkhul students’ organization said that it was deeply disturbed and saddened by the barbaric murder of Ngamreishang Ningshen and condemned in no uncertain terms the manner in which his body was disposed off after killing him.
Stating that such inhuman acts of barbarism by anti-social elements is not acceptable in any society in today’s world as a means of resolving a difference; the statement added that the Saklong was deeply disturbed and prayed to the Almighty God for comfort and guidance to his family during this time of bereavement.
The statement asserted that TKS paid its tribute to the departed soul in whom the society has lost a person of immense maturity, responsibility and a great leader, while appealling to all not to commit such acts of barbarism which tarnishes the image of the entire society.
Notably late Mr. Ngamreishang Ningshen had served the Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong as its vice president during the Presidency of Mr. Wungnaoshang A Shimray for the tenure 2009-2011.
