Three more of five babies expire, surviving infant in coma

IMPHAL, September 23: In all three more of the remaining four babies given birth by Oinam Gita Devi, 34, wife O Shanta Singh Singh, 35, of Thanga Samukon, on a single day expired today, while remaining one is said to be in coma.

Speaking to IFP the Media Superintendent of RIMS, informed that the condition of Oinam Gita was stable and as such she is kept at the bed No.2 of the hospital’s post natal ward.

Quite unfortunately, the last remaining baby is also said to be in a coma and under strict monitoring at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS).

The superintendent further revealed that the survival chances of children born under such rare condition are slim if they weigh below one kilogram.

It may be mentioned that Gita gave birth to five babies yesterday. Of the five one was still born while two were immediately rushed to ICU as their condition deteriorated.

The babies weighed between 700 and 900 grams.
