Congress draws flak for deliberate attempt to hold meeting before AITC candidate`s residence

Imphal, October 3: Castigating the Congress and Chief Minister Okram Ibobi for deliberately trying to conduct a public meeting of the party in front of AITC candidate Dr Y Radheshyam`™s house. In his regard, Langmeidong Apunba Meira Paibee Lup has held a sit-in-protest and a public meeting at the residence of the AITC candidate this afternoon.

The Congress is preparing to organise a public meeting on October 6 before the residence of the AITC candidate.

Langmeidong Apunba Meira Paibi Lup secretary Chingakham Jiteshori Devi said the Congress party is obstinately planning to hold a public meeting before the residence of the AITC candidate against the wishes of the people of Langmeidong.

We received information that Congress workers had taken permission from the concerned DC, Adhyaksha and the Pradan for holding a meeting at the Langmeidong public ground located just in front of the residence of the AITC candidate, she said adding that women folks of Langmeidong would take out a protest rally on October 4 against the preparations for the public meeting of the Congress at the public ground.

Briefing the media, she said the action of the Congress is highly condemnable and going ahead with the meeting at the public ground might create a lot of untoward incidents among the people of Langmeidong.

Congress leaders will create untoward incidents through their nefarious rhetoric so the public meeting should not be held in the public ground, she added.

Langmeidong Apunba Meira Paibi Lup president Yumnam Tharongou said: `The six associations of women bodies today decided together to protest against the Congress public meeting scheduled on October 6. The reason of our protest is why they have chosen this particular ground when there are so many other grounds in the Langmeidong area.`

If the meeting is forcibly conducted here than Chief Minister Okram Ibobi and Deputy CM Gaikhangam must take responsibility of the resultant untoward incidents, she said adding that people of Langmeidong would not accept the rhetoric of Elangbam Dwijamani and Congress party as the gospel truth.

Pointing out that during the last many years Chief Minister Okram Ibobi hasn`™t showed up even for a single moment, she asked why all of a sudden he and his party is taking so much interest for the people of Hiyanglam.

The consequence of the meeting would not be good as mobs could create utter chaos in the area. So, women of the area will stand against the nefarious designs of the Congress until death, she added.

In a public meeting held in this regard attended by Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress Committee vice-president M Thoiba and general secretary P Premananda, the resolutions of making the Congress withdraw its preparations for going ahead with its meeting in front of the residence of the AITC candidate.

M Thoiba said the congress is obstinately attempting to go against the wishes of the people of Langmeidong and must take responsibility of any untoward incidents.

We only want a peaceful and fair election but this vulgar action of the Congress can only be best dealt with by the people who should not participate in such meetings if it is held before the residence of our candidate, he added.

Later, the MPTCC submitted a memorandum to the concerned District Magistrate for imposing immediate restrictions on organising or holding any public meeting of the Congress on October 6 or any other dates in the Langmeidong public play ground lying about 6 metres away to the east of the residence of AITC candidate Dr Yumnam Radheshyam Singh.
