IMPHAL, October 18: Two active members of the KCP (Maoist) were nabbed while coming to collect extortion money from a brick-field located at Telou Chana, informed the police today.
The two were arrested by a team of the Imphal East district police commando unit during a search operation conducted in and around Lamlai Bazar on October 16.
A PRO Police press statement identified the two as Ingoudam Ibungo Singh alias Inao, 33, son of (L) I Mago Singh of Seijang Makha Leikai and Ngangom Shanta Singh alias Mamo, 37, son of Ng Krishna Singh of Loushangkhong Awang Leikai.
It said incriminating articles were seized from their possession and that further investigation revealed that they were coming to collect extortion money from a brick-field located at Telou Chana and had also extorted a sum of Rs 2 lakhs from Uripok Canteen Leirak recently.
Investigation further revealed that they had extorted a huge amount of money from the general public, private firms, government offices, contractors and brick-fields located in and around Lamlai area to raise funds for KCP (Maoist) organization, it said before adding that a case has been registered at Lamlai Police Station and investigation is going on.
In another similar operation, a combined team of Bishnupur District Police commando unit and 12 Bihar Regiment conducted search operation in the general area of Awangkhunou, Imphal West on October 17 and arrested the publicity secretary of KCP (MC) Lamyanba Khuman Group, namely, M. Robert alias Washington, 30, son of M. Rotonjao Singh of Awang Khunou Mayai Leikai, it said.
The PRO Police press release continued that incriminating articles were seized from his possession and a case has been registered at Patsoi Police Station and investigation is going on.
The same day, based on reliable information, a combined team of Bishnupur District Police commando unit and 12 Bihar Regiment conducted search operation at Nambol Bazar and arrested one active member of PREPAK organisation, namely, Manson Ningthoujam alias Sana, 23, son of (L) N Babu Singh of Koirou Thongju Part-II, Imphal East.
Investigation revealed that he was involved in recruiting youths for the said organization, it said before adding that a case has been registered at Nambol Police Station and investigation is going on.
Meanwhile, according to a PRO IGAR (s) statement, troops of 16 Assam Rifles of 10 Sector AR also launched an operation in the general area of Chana and Yawllen Chepu villages and apprehended two UG cadres on October 17 identified as Ksh Amuthoi of KCP (MC), 40, son of Imu Tomba of Chana village, Lamlai, Imphal East and Ngambom Khongsai, KLA, 25, son of Limjapao Khongshai of Motbung village, Senapati.
Extortion demand letter was recovered from the KCP cadre, it said while adding that the apprehendees along with the recovered items have been handed over to the Lamlai and Litan Police Station, it said.
In another operation, troops of 12 BIHAR of 9 Sector of AR launched an operation in the general area of Bombdiyar and apprehended a PLA cadre on October 17 identified as Nahakpam Rojit Singh alias Nan, 34, son of N. Shyamjai Singh of Bombdiyar. He was handed over to the Patsoi Police Station, it said.
