IMPHAL, October 18: Anti-AFSPA crusader Irom Chanu Sharmila has said that the Centre seems to look at her movement against the draconian Armed Forces Special Powers`™ Act as part of a liberation movement.

She was replying to media queries for comments on a reported statement of Lt Gen Bipin Rawat, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Corps that AFSPA should be re-imposed in the State capital to counter the insurgency problem.

Sharmila was today, produced before the court of Judicial Magistrate First Class, Imphal East Judge Wisdom, and remanded to further judicial custody till October 31, 2014.

She said the GOC`™s contention on the issue is unfortunate and added people have already suffered much due to the imposition of the Act, and now after the partial repeal of the Act from the State`™s capital, people had just started to think that the situation has improved a little.

Imposition of such a draconian act in a democracy is in itself not a sign of good governance, observed Sharmila who has been on a fast demanding repeal of the Act since November 2000.
