Drug consignments seized from same courier service twice: Police

IMPHAL, November 22: City Police personnel led by OC Sudhir Kumar have seized huge drug consignments on two separate counts from the same cargo service having office in Imphal during the past fortnight.

Briefing media persons today at the City Police station, additional SP Imphal West, L Birbabu Singh said on November 21 around 1:50 pm, on getting information about a drug consignment coming through Bright Super Cargo Service, Thangal Bazar near Delhi Motors from a reliable source, a team of the City police rushed to the spot.

Reaching the spot, the police team found two individuals suspected to be consignees of the illicit drug consignment, he said.

On interrogation, the two were found to be connected with the consignment. SP tablets and strips of Nitro sun- 10 were found in a gunny bag inside the consignment, the police officer continued.

The two identified as Laishram Rocky Singh, 30, son of Koknang Singh of kakching Pat Mayai Leikai and Mayanglambam Ibomcha, 50, son of (L) M Madhumangol Singh of Kakching Wairi Khunyai Leikai were paraded before the media persons today.

He said 53040 numbers of loose SP capsules and 220 strips of Nitro sun- 10 were recovered from the consignment on inspection. The value of the seized items could be around Rs 5 lakh in the black market, he said.

The consignment was addressed to M/s `Selina Shoes`™, Kakching Bazar.

He further continued that the two accused will be detained at the City Police Station for further investigation till November 28 and a case has been filed under FIR no 187 (11) 2014 City PS u/s 21 (c)/ 22 (C)/ 25 (A) ND & PS Act & 419/420/34 IPC.

In a separate incident on November 11, a team of the City police caught another person identified as Md Tajuddin alias Ashis, 31, son of Md Samshiruddin of Khergai Awang Sabal Leikai with three polythene bags containing 4287 loose numbers of SP capsules from the same Bright Super Cargo Service, the police officer continued.

The accused is charged under FIR No. 181(11)2014 City-PS u/s 21(C) / 22(C) / 25(a) ND & PS Act and is presently in judicial custody, he said.

The addl SP said civilian co-operation is utmost necessary in such operations and civilian witnesses should not be afraid to come forward with the truth during court appearances so that all culprits are handed befitting punishment.

The police will be handicapped if witnesses remain silent or are afraid to come forward with the truth, he said before appealing for co-operation of the public in police investigation.

The press briefing was also attended by OC City Police Station Sudhir Kumar and Sub Divisional Police Officer, SDPO A Ghanashyam Sharma.

Meanwhile, according to a PRO Police press statement, a team of District Police Commando, Imphal West arrested an active member of PLA, namely, Rajkumar Surjit alias Mocha, 39, son of RK Bheigyachandra Singh of Uripok Achom Leikai from Iroishemba Mang Hiden near Community Hall on November 21.

It said incriminating articles were seized from his possession and that a case has been registered at Lamphel Police Station and investigation is going on.
