Imphal, November 7: Teachers appointed on contract basis in 2006 to be posted in the hill districts and engaged by the Directorate of Education (S) have demanded the government to adopt a policy decision for their regularisation within a short period.
In a press meet at the MBC Higher Secondary School in Chingmeirong this afternoon, All Manipur Hill District Contract Basis Teachers Association (AMHDCBTA) convenor PA Epchan said that the school teachers who were appointed on a contract basis in 2006 to be posted in the hill districts by the Education (S) are facing a lot of difficulties owing to the lukewarm attitude of the government.
The schools in the hill districts are short of teachers and basic infrastructure of the schools there should be developed by the State government, he said.
The government had extended their service and remunerated them till December 2008 but didn’t issue any order after that, Epchan said, adding on November 2011, a physical verification process along with those of the relevant documents of the teachers was conducted by the Directorate of Education (S).
He further stated that the concerned directorate put up a list of 772 genuine contractual teachers to the higher authority for their further engagement but without any positive outcome till date.
Setting up a Departmental Promotional Committee is purely under the purview of the government, it can adopt a policy and conduct the DPC for the contractual teachers at any time, he said, adding the government has adopted a policy for the regularisation of the contractual lecturers of higher secondary schools appointed in 2009 and long suffering lecturers of government colleges.
AMHDCBTA demanding a similar policy decision regarding the regularisation of contractual teachers appointed in 2006, in association with the Student`s Union of hill-based government schools, submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Okram Ibobi. The memorandum jointly submitted with various hill districts students’ union such as the Zeliangrong Students’ Union, Naga Students’ Union of Chandel and Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong highlights certain problems faced by the schools in hill districts.
If the government fails to initiate positive measures within November 15, the association along with the student`s unions would be compelled to launch various agitations in the four corners of the State like closing down the National Projects in the hill districts and stopping the inter district transport systems, the AMHDCBTA convenor said.
