IMPHAL, November 5: A District and Session Judge/Manipur East court has remanded a school teacher, arrested earlier on charges of raping an eight year-old student, to 15 days further judicial custody today.
The accused identified as Arambam Robindro Singh, 40, son of A Ibomcha Singh of Bishnupur Bazar near CI College was an assistant teacher at a school located at Sekmaijin Idiga Road. He is accused of raping an eight-year old student who was staying in the school boarding on October 27.
The Mayang Imphal police had registered a case regarding the incident, however since the crime comes under the purview of the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences, 2012, the case was transferred to the Imphal West Police Station.
The police station had acquired the necessary police custody remand order from the court on October 29 and initiated investigation.
The accused was produced before the court this afternoon. The Imphal West Police station prayed before the court for judicial custody remand of the accused following which it was granted.
