Ibobi assures CCpur media team of development in hills

LAMKA, December 20: The proposed Hill University in the State will be set up soon and it is only a matter of time before it is started, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh told a select group of Churachandpur news correspondents of Imphal-based local dailies during a meeting at his office today.

The CCpur team of media persons had called upon the Chief Minister on the occasion of advent Christmas and as part of a New Year courtesy call.

The Chief Minister who was visibly happy at meeting the media persons spoke on the diverse issues brought up before him.

The media team had also lauded the Chief Minister for projecting the district of Churachandpur in particular and the hill districts of the State in general for fast track development.

The Chief Minister had said his government has already identified two-three places for the hill university, but it is yet to be finalised.

He said it will be done only in consultation and consideration of the people`™s interest.

The site, the Chief Minister said will also be an easily accessible place so that it will cater to the educational needs of not only the residents of Churchandpur but also of other parts of the State.

The process is a little time consuming as the experts will have to first locate the place, report it to the government and then seek approval of the Governor after the cabinet gives its nod, he said.

On being questioned about the assurance of the government for equal development between the hill and the valley districts of the State, the Chief Minister assured that it will be more than equal as his government is and has been giving more priority to the development of the hill district at the moment.

On the failure of the government to inaugurate the recently inaugurated 33/11 KV sub-station at Pherzawl Village, the Chief Minister said he was fuming upon the concerned department and had himself instructed the department to immediately transport the needed supplies including wires to complete the sub-station. Soon enough more that 70 truckloads of supplies were transported to the sub-station, he said adding that as of now Thanlon and Tipaimukh will soon enjoy enough power supply latest by January 2015.

On the issue of the Autonomous District Council, the Chief Minister told the media team that the issue is a priority issue of his government and that it will be considered after the Assembly session, however, as of now the main focus of the government is to improve the Health, Power sectors, road connectivity and supply of potable water in the State.

He said electricity is an important part of our lives and as such the government envisages many more projects to set up power sub-stations especially the 100 plus KV station at Thanlon and another 132/33 KV sub-station at Moreh which will be commissioned soon.

To see that the electricity supply reaches the people, he said he has instructed the village authorities, the MDCs and MLAs concerned to submit the completion reports, based on actual ground facts directly to him.

We have also set up 50 or more bedded Heath centers at many places particularly in the hill districts including those at Moreh and CCpur which will however be not the end, the Chief Mnister further told the media team.

As for his promises, the Chief Minister said his government has already initiated work on the assurances he had made in Education and Health sectors during the HYA Platinum jubilee celebration.
