Sanjenbam locals demand truth behind alleged life attempt on Lamsang VDF

IMPHAL, December 17: Social Youth Organisation, Sanjenbam and Sanjenbam Apunba Meira Paibi Lup jointly organised a public meeting today against the alleged attempt made on the life of VDF personnel Chandam Ishorjit who is presently undergoing treatment at the Shija Hospital and Research Institute.

The locals demanded the government to bring justice to the VDF personnel and to bear his huge medical expenses.

Even though it was reported that Chandam Ishworjit Singh, 23 son of C Indrakumar Singh of Sanjenbam Mayai Leikai, Imphal West had attempted suicide by shooting himself while on sentry duty at the Lamsang Police Station on November 27 at 6:30 pm, family members had negated the report and claimed he was shot from behind by someone else.

Speaking at the public meeting, the VDF personnel`™s uncle C Shantikumar Singh said that the family came to know of the incident directly from Ishworjit himself on the mobile phone and not from the police.

Ishworjit was speaking to his wife Malemnganbi on his mobile phone at the time of the incident and had said over the phone that he had been shot at, he said.

Shantikumar said when he tried to speak on the phone, Ishworjit was unable to speak but was heard crying.

Meanwhile, during the meeting, the locals demanded the government to investigate the incident properly and find the truth and to bear his medical expenses.

It is also learnt that a memorandum has already been submitted to the Prime Minister, Union Home Minister, Chief Minister and the State Home minister.

Later, the locals took out a rally starting from the community hall to Lamsang Police Station and demonstrated before the police demanding to find the culprits.

The public meeting was also attended by members of Women Action for Development (WAD), National Human Right Law Network, Editor Naharolgi Thoudang Khoirom Loyalakpa and locals of the Sanjenbam Mayai Leikai.
