IMPHAL, December 19: About 7 kgs of gold have been used in refurbishing the two domes of the Shree Govindajee Temple, and the renovation work of the temple is carried out by a construction committee of the Govindajee Temple Board, said Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh while replying to a question from Thangmeiband MLA Khumukcham Joykisan.

He said the renovation work is being taken up by the temple board and as per the availability of funds received through donations and contributions from devotees and the government has no hand in it.

The Chief Minister who also holds the MAHUD portfolio said ex-MLA Dr Loken is the chairperson of the construction committee of the Govindajee Temple Board which owns 50 parries of paddy field.

He said the annual income earned through the property is used by the board for the development of the temple.

The funding from North East Council is being used to develop the surrounding area of the temple, the Chief Minister said before urging the MLA to discuss the issue in a more open forum for more details.

MLA Joykisan also appended that it would be better if the individuals making donations or contributions were listed out on a plaque. He further said he would like to donate Rs 50,000 for the temple renovation as he is a regular visitor.
