State committed to preserving genuine playground, but not Lairenpat: CM

IMPHAL, December 21: There is no intention of the State government to encroach upon any playground which would discourage the sports loving people of Manipur.

Chief Minister, Okram Ibobi observed the above statement in response to a discussion raised by MLA Th Shyamkumar during Discussion on Matter of Public Interest in the last day of the Assembly today. The MLA pointed out on the need to revoke the order of allotment of land for construction of store room and office of PSPCL/PWD Mechanical Division at Lairenpat playground in Kshetrigao A/C.

The CM maintained that the said area is not a genuine playground as it is a low lying area. He informed the House that he along with concerned officials have taken visit many time to check the area in connection with the feasibility of building a store room. He appealed to the member of the House to confirm it by paying a personal visit to the Lairenpat area.

He continued that a store room for the said departments is urgently needed to relocate the materials lying inside the Kangla and as well as in the premises of the JNIMS, Porompat. Moreover, the inspection team of the Indian Medical Council, IMC will be visiting the institute shortly. If there is any shortage in infrastructural requirement of the medical institute, the IMC will not give approval for further up-gradation of it, he said.

Meanwhile, during question hour, the CM informed that the State has already taken up plan to develop Kaina as a tourist destination and further work in this connection will be carried out after Revised Sanction of funds are materialised. He also informed that tourist homes at Mahadev, Finch Corner, Hundung, Nungbi and Jessami will are going to be completed soon.

The CM was responding to separate questions raised by MLA Th Shyamkumar of Andro A/C and Samual Risom, MLA of Ukhrul A/C.
