IMPHAL, December 20: The All Manipur Teachers`™ Association today staged a mass rally decrying the government`™s failure to look into their demands and apathy towards higher education sector.

The demonstrating teachers started from Oriental College and decided to reach the Chief Minister`™s bungalow but were stopped near the Bijoy Govinda Thangapat area. From there they return to the college again.

Speaking to media persons, the association`™s president M Lokendro Singh demanded removal of the present Higher Education commissioner P Vaiphei from his post; a fresh notification considering local conditions in respect of recruitment Career Advancement Scheme and other service matters.

He said other demands of the association include cancellation of Government order no. 7(2)/6/2003-HE dated November 14, 2014 and appointment of regular principals for all government colleges of Manipur and immediate release of pending due allowances including SCA, TA etc entitled to college teachers and equivalent cadres by making correction of ROP orders dated August 12, 2011 as top priority.

Lokendro lamented that the government has neglected the welfare of the teachers and at the same time continue to overlook their demands despite submission of multiple memorandums regarding the issues.

He said the association has met many higher officials of the department and has even taken up democratic forms of agitation, however, the authorities have continued to neglect the demands.

Declaring the demands of the teachers to be legitimate, he said the Education minister had himself assured to issue a fresh notification and clear all pending allowances of the teachers, which is yet to be fulfilled.
