IMPHAL, Dec 19: A three-day long workshop cum festival of Pena and indigenous instruments of Manipur was inaugurated today at the Jawaharlal Nehru Manipuri Dance Academy organised by the academy in collaboration with Sangeet Natak Akademy, Guwahti.
The festival will conclude on December 21.
Speaking at the function JN Dance Academy director L Upendra said Pena is an indigenous musical instrument which plays a crucial and important role in the history of the land and so it should be promoted by all.
He continued that the instrument is however, not so popular throughout the State.
Former vice chairman of the academy, professor N Tombi said the people of the State should not allow the instrument to disappear and should promote and develop it.
