IMPHAL, January 25: Giving another severe blow to the law enforcing agencies, a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) exploded in Imphal on the eve of the 65th Republic Day celebration.

Today`™s explosion took place this morning around 9.30 am at the western bank of Nambul river, opposite Keisamthong Moirang Ningthou Leirak. The blast site was just about 20 metres away from the place where an explosion ripped off on January 23 evening.

The IED was detonated by a remote controlled device, said official sources.

The place was reportedly teeming with security personnel keeping vigil 24×7 in view of the Republic Day celebration. This is the sixth blast within Imphal city in less than a week and Police are still groping in the dark.

Bomb blast in unending succession has been continuing since January 20.

On the other hand, armed miscreants attacked the group centre CRPF, Mongsangei, using hand grenade last night along Mayai Lambi, Singjamei police station. However, no casualty was reported.

Sources said that camp came under attack twice, the first one around 8.30 pm which landed within the campus and seconds later another grenade exploded. Chinese made hand grenades ware used in the attacks.
