Civil bodies to intensify agitation until AR ousted from Chandel

IMPHAL, January 31: Vehicular movement along the Imphal-Moreh section of National Highway was paralyzed for the second day due to the indefinite bandh called by the villagers of Tengnoupal and spearheaded by the Kuki Women Human Rights Organization, Tengnoupal Block along with the Kuki Student`s Organization, Chandel District today.

Large number of bandh supporters mostly women blocked the Imphal -Moreh road at Tengnoupal Village and keep strict vigil throughout the night and prohibited vehicular movement including two wheeler.

However, there was no report of any untoward incident during the course of the bandh today.

Meanwhile, in connection with the ongoing imbroglio between the 24 Assam Rifles and the villagers of Tengnoupal, Kuki Civil bodies of Chandel District and Kuki Women Human rights Organization, Tengnoupal along with the KSO Chandel held a joint meeting at Tengnoupal village Authority Office today.

During the meeting, the Kuki Civil bodies unanimously resolved to intensify the agitation until and unless the 24 Assam Rifles including all ranks and files is remove from Chandel District. Moreover, the civil bodies also appealed all concern for kind co-operation.

The joint meeting was attended by the leaders of Kuki chiefs Association (KCA) Chandel District and its Blocks, Kuki Student`s Organization (KSO) Chandel District, Thadou Student`s Association (TSA) Chandel, Kuki Women Human Rights Organization, Teng noupal, KSO Tengoupal among others.

Meanwhile, JAC Imphal Moreh Road Transporters has in a press statement extended its support to the bandh called by the Tengnoupal villagers.

It said that the Assam Rifles have been frequently harassing the public as well as the transporters in the name of security.

Very few numbers of personnel are given the task of checking all the vehicles passing the road which is quite time consuming and inconvenient for the public, it said.
