CM concerned with housing constructions, proposes new eco-friendly housing policy

IMPHAL, January 23: State Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh today expressed concerned over the present mode of housing and building constructions in the State particularly in the city areas and said his government is willing to set up an eco-friendly Housing Policy in the State.

Speaking at the valedictory function of the three-day National Seminar on Science and Technology for Human Development, the Chief Minister said under the proposed policy every house or building will have the provision to produce energy through solar energy. The function was held at the Court Room of vice chancellor, Manipur University, Canchipur.

Appreciating the organisers for the successful conduct of the national seminar, he said the seminar will be beneficial in popularising and promoting Science.

He stressed on the need to encourage scientific research, and further appealed to the university authority to provide good working atmosphere for the students, scholars and young scientists.

He said more focus and attention should be put to pure and applied science.

The government is ready to help out and join hands in any scientific approach focused on sustainable development for the welfare of the public he said welcoming any suggestion regarding the IT policy of the State.

The seminar was jointly organised by Indian Science Congress Association, Imphal Chapter and Manipur University under the sponsorship of Indian Science Congress Association. Today`™s valedictory function was presided over by vice chancellor, Manipur University Prof H Nandakumar Sarma.

Young scientist awards were also presented to four scholars/scientists during the valedictory function carrying Rs 5000 in cash, a citation and a memento each.

The recipients of the awards are Saikat Kumar Seth of Indian Association of Cultivation of Sciences, Kolkata for the project `Polymorphism in unusual Ni(II)-IDA complex: A novel polymorph of Diaquaiminodiacetatonickel`™; Ksh Beliya Luxmi of Department of Anthropology, Manipur University for `Estimation of Stature Using Different Body Dimensions Among the Kabui Naga males of Tamenglong, Manipur`™; Shyam Maisnam of Department of Life Sciences, Manipur University for`Faunistic Diversity of Thrips (Insecta: Thysanoptera)in the Itanagar Wildlife Sanctuary of Arunachal Pradesh`™ and Yumnam Bembem of Department of Mathematics for `Cosmological models with variable G and A`™, also of Manipur University.
