Dead Jiri woman found pregnant during autopsy

IMPHAL, Jan 11: The post-mortem examination of Indrani Devi was held today at JNIMS Morgue.

Yumnam Ongbi Indrani Devi, 38, wife of Y Babahal Singh, of Bidyanagar in Jiribam, died after she was injured in a physical fight with her neighbour on January 9.

According to post-mortem report she was pregnant with a baby boy in her womb.

Her husband told this reporter that today was supposed to be the day of her delivery according to the doctor who she did her routine check up for her delivery when she was alive. She is survived by on e son and five daughters.

He also appealed for punishment of the accused identified Potsangbam Seilendhino Devi, 60, wife of (L) P Hem Singh, of Bidyanagar in Jiribam, who is in police custody, according to the law.

Meanwhile, the Handicapped Rehabilitation Organization (HRO) has in a release expressed grief over the death of an unborn child and condemned the incident.

`It would have been better if they somehow manage to save the unborn by admitting the woman at CHC Jiribam right after the incident happened. But the fact is that due to the failure of the government even the post-mortem had to be done at JNIMS, Imphal which is about 222 Km away. Due to the lack of expert doctor at the CHC Jiribam they failed to save the unborn infant,` it said.

HRO also appealed the concern authority to punish the guilty.
