Loan beneficiaries appeal for waiver

IMPHAL, January 25: All Manipur Selected Special Employment Generation Programme (SEGP) Beneficiaries Committee appealed the board of directors of the Manipur State Co-operative Bank Limited to waive off their loans under SEGP which were issued during the period under the UPA government.

Speaking to the media at a press conference at the Manipur Press Club today, the committee president Shanasam Binoy said they will launch all sorts of democratic protests if the concerned authorities don`™t act on their appeal.

The beneficiaries have faced various kinds of hurdles and had to bribe many officials to avail the loan, he added.

He said the beneficiaries were forcibly made to open an account on MetLife Insurance which has casted a burden on them in repaying off the loan.

Moreover, the beneficiaries have faced several obstacles due to which they could not be able to repay the loans, he said, adding they have submitted memorandums for the loan waiver to the Prime Minister, Finance minister, Chief minister of the State, Cabinet ministers and three MPs of the State but haven`™t got any response receive till date.

Binoy continued that the concerned authorities have given a threat towards the beneficiaries to confiscate their properties if they failed to repay the loan which is confined only to beneficiaries from the valley districts.
