IMPHAL, January 19: Miscreants reportedly left a Chinese made hand grenade at the principal`™s office of Meijrao Model English School under Wangoi Police station yesterday sending the school authority into a panic.
Official sources informed that the grenade was left in the afternoon.
Three unidentified youth reportedly came asking for the principal on the pretext of admission related issue.
As the principal was not available during the time, the miscreants reportedly left the hand grenade at his desk, the sources claimed
The miscreants also reportedly warned the school authority not to inform the police or local authority of the threat before leaving the campus.
Following the warning the school authority had initially maintained silence, the source said.
However, apprehensive over the presence of the bomb in the school campus, the school authority today reported the police.
Later the bomb was safely retrieved from the office.
A case has been registered with the Wangoi police station.
When IFP contacted the school authority, it is learnt that the school received an extortion note of Rs 6 lakhs from a militant group few months back. However, they claimed that they are not sure whether the current bomb threat was related with the monetary demand.
