IMPHAL, Jan 31: A team of Imphal East District Police Commando unit arrested an active member of PREPAK organization during frisking and checking in front of Imphal East DC office gate yesterday, said a police release.
The arrested person has been identified as Laikhuram Priyobarta Singh alais Nanao, 30, son of (L) L Samungou Singh of Kongpal Khaidem Leikai.
Incriminating articles were seized from his possession. Investigation revealed that he was coming to the office to District Industry Centre (DIC), Porompat to deliver mobile number of one Chaklamba of PREPAK organization for contacting him in connection with the extortion of money for raising fund for the said organization, the release said.
Investigation further revealed that he had extorted huge amount of money from the general public, private firms, government offices, etc., on the advice of Chaklamba, it said.
A case has been registered at Porompat Police Station and investigation is going on, it added.
