IMPHAL, January 22: An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) weighing around one Kilogram was recovered from a local residence of Kwakta Pangal Lamkhai under Moirang Police station, Bishnupur district.
The bomb was recovered from amongst the pea plant of the kitchen garden belonging to one Md Abdul Salam, 39, son of late Jahur-uddin of Kwakta Pangal Lamkhai ward no. 6. It was reportedly found inside a gunny bag.
Official sources said that the bomb was detected around 5.30 am by 2 JAKLI personnel of Gothol post.
Later it was safely disposed off by the bomb disposal squad of 743 Mountain Brigade along with the assistance of the district police around 8.05 am.
On the other hand, a source confided to IFP that a lady saw two unidentified persons in civies entering the premises of Abdul Salam bearing a gunny bag last night around 11 pm. The duo reportedly left the bag amongst the pea plant of the kitchen garden before leaving the campus.
The source further quoted the lady that minutes after the duo left a team of 2 JAKLI Gothol post rushed to Abdul Salam`™s residence and informed the family of the presence of bomb at their homestead.
The army personnel also asked the family not to allow anyone to enter their homestead while informing that they would be back the next day.
Concerned over the detection of bomb, locals of the Kwakta Pangal Lamkhai organised a public meeting 2 pm today.
The meeting presided by Md. Shoukat Ali, Social Worker, unanimously adopted several resolutions while strongly condemning the detection of bomb at the residence of Md. Abdul Salam.
Noting that the presence of the bomb was informed by the security personnel in the early morning, the meeting observed that the place where the bomb was found is far away from main road, no security personnel passes through the place.
Questioning how the security intelligence came to know about the bomb when none of the family member of abdul or neighbours know about it? it demanded to review over the intelligence report by relevant authority.
The gathering further demanded the perpetrator the intention behind the bomb threat.
Meanwhile, miscreants left a Chinese made hand grenade at the residence of Wangoi Nagar Panchayat`™s chairpersons this morning under Wangoi police station Imphal West district.
The Chairperson has been identified as one Khaidem Bala Devi, 38, wife of Kh Kanhai Singh of Wangoi Khaidem Leikai.
The grenade was detected around 6.45 am lying at the courtyard of the Chairperson.
Later it was retrieved and safely detonated by a team of Bomb expert.
It may be recalled that on November last year was exploded a grenade at the Chairperson`™s residence.
The motive behind the two incidents is said to be related with monetary demand, sources said.
