Sit-in protest at Angtha demands formation of a high-level committee in Skull recovery case

IMPHAL, January 13: Various civil societies staged a sit-in protest at the Yairipok Angtha Khongnang Makhong demanding the government to solve the mystery around the recovery of some skulls and bones on December 25 last from the Tombisana High School by setting up a high level enquiry committee and conducting DNA tests.

Among the many people who have disappeared after their arrests by security personnel, the whereabouts of Yumlembam Sanamacha from Angtha who was arrested by security personnel suspected to be Indian Army soldiers on the intervening night of February 12 and 13, 1998 remains unknown.

The sit-in protest was organised by Committee on Mass Grave at Tombisana High School (COMGAT) in collaboration with the Angtha Apunba Meira Paibi Nupi Khunnai and five other civil bodies. Many leaders of the Family of the involuntary disappeared association, Manipur (FIDAM) also participated in the protest.

In his speech, COMGAT convenor Phunindro Konsam said various central paramilitary forces were deployed in the State when the insurgency movement made its appearance some 25 to 30 years ago.
