IPAK concerned over foreigners getting Aadhar cards

IMPHAL, February 2: Issuing the Aadhar Card in an indiscriminate manner, including to migrants without any valid id proof could create a serious threat to the State, observed Indigenous People`™s Association of Kangleipak, Manipur IPAK chairman Sapamcha Jadumani today.

Speaking at a press conference at the office of the association, Jadumani strongly appealed to the concern authorities to properly check the identity of any individual before issuing the Aadhar card.

He pointed out that many non-locals who are without any official proof of address have been issued the card .

He further appealed to the court authorities in the State and the All Manipur Bar Association against issuing affidavits easily without any proper verification as it only helps people without proper documentation apply for Aadhar card.

According to the 2001 census, there are 7,04,488 migrants in the State of which more than five lakhs are foreigners and it is time for the people to be cautious and keep vigil, he said.

jadumani continued that although it is not an issue for people to rent out their premises to non-locals, it is wrong on the part of the tenants to use the address of their land lords as their own to apply of Aadhar cards from the State.

Several individuals, he said have been caught using wrong address to apply for Aadhar cards, he said before appealing to the State politicians against getting involved in issuing Aadhar cards to non-locals without proper documentation.
