Heirok observes death anniversary of UG crossfire victims

THOUBAL, March 24: The 7th death anniversary of three youths (one male and two females) who died when a shootout occurred at a Thabal Chongba at Heirok Part 2 Umang Laikon Maning Lampak on March 24, 2008 was observed today at Heirok Part 1 Umang Laikon amidst hue and cry.

The unfortunate incident had claimed the lives of three youth and left another young woman crippled.

The memorial sites of the three persons were constructed by RPN Memorial Trust Committee and the President of the Trust Committee, Th. Ranjan has stated that the government has not taken up any action on the promises made to the people of Heirok so far.

As part of the event, family members, friends, villagers and intellectuals offered floral tribute to the memorial sites. The Heirok SPO also gave salute to the sites in honour of the deceased. A few family members fainted on the spot during the floral tribute.

Afterwards, Th. Ranjan stated that due to the 2008 incident, people of Heirok approached the government strongly demanding the use of weapons to protect themselves from conflicts occurring between revolutionaries. Thereafter the people of Heirok were also prohibited from leaving the village by revolutionaries.

The remembrance of 2008 incident has brought enlightenment, which is why the day is observed as `Mangal Piba Numit`™, said the president of the Trust Committee.

He further said that the government has not taken up any initiation which is very unfortunate.

Afterwards, a discussion and interaction session was held by with intellectuals. A free blood donation camp was organised jointly with RIMS Immuno Hematology and Blood Transfusion Department in connection with the event followed.

Around 70 people donated blood during the camp. The camp was held under the theme `Mamagi pirangna machabu kanba kanba ngamdrabasu adomgi ee nadi kanba ngamli`™.
