Kidnappers release labourer after contractor pays ransom

IMPHAL, Mar 4 (NNN): After six days in their captivity, the labourer kidnapped by armed miscreants on February 26 last has secured an unharmed released. However, it was not clear on what condition the hostage was released.

Ranjit Singh, a labourer engaged by a contractor identified as Lunsat Kipgen in his contract work of road repairing at Chawangkining under Kangpokpi police station of Senapati district was kidnapped by four armed miscreants from the makeshift camp where the labourer stayed with his colleagues on the night of February 26.

Among the four kidnappers which police suspect belonging to a faction of hill based underground group, three of them possessed pistols while the other one was seen accompanying an AK rifle.

Kangpokpi police registered a case after the contractor lodged a complaint on the next day of the kidnapping.

The labourer whose whereabouts remained untraceable since the day was released Tuesday late evening at on the western hill range of Pangei under Sagolmang police station of Imphal East district.
