IMPHAL, March 29, 2015: Artemis Hospitals has conducted a `Women`™s Cancer and Cardiac awareness and screening Camp`™ in Imphal on March 28.

According to a release of the Artemis Hospitals, World Women`™s Boxing Champion Mary Kom was present to inspire the participants about being aware of the prevalent diseases and get screened at the proper time. The initiative aimed to spread awareness regarding these diseases all across the country, including the unexplored North East.

Mary Kom requested everyone to come forward and join hands in the fight against these deadly diseases in the state. More than hundred women were provided complimentary cardiac & cancer screening tests and specialist consultation. The primary objective of the camp was to educate people on the early symptoms of the disease and the preventive measures that one can take at an early stage, it said.

Chief Executive Officer, Artemis Hospitals, Doctor Devlina Chakravarty and Medical Director and Director-Cardiology, Artemis Hospitals, Doctor. (Col.) Manjinder Sandhu were also present at the camp to educate people about these lethal diseases which can be prevented if diagnosed on time.

Speaking on the occasion, Doctor Devlina Chakravarty has said that they were extremely glad to join hands with Mary Kom, and that it was the continuation of their association to spread consciousness about the fatal cancer and heart diseases, all over India. These diseases, if diagnosed and treated at an early stage, can prevent the pain and suffering that the patients and their families undergo.

In his speech, Doctor (Col.) Manjinder Sandhu has said that although there are various factors for heart diseases, the hospital wanted to spread the message that `a happy heart is a healthy heart`™ and it is essential to drive away stress and worries from a person`™s life and be happy and also importantly to spread happiness around. The diseases could be avoided if the main risk factors such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, tobacco, unhealthy diet and physical inactivity, are managed properly.

Expressing her appreciation of the initiative undertaken by Artemis Hospitals, World Women`™s Boxing Champion, Mary Kom state that she has collaborated with Artemis Hospitals as they are an efficient multi specialty healthcare provider with ethical values and a strong women centric management team.

Women are the backbone of the society, they act multiple roles every day, right from taking care of their families to supporting them emotionally and financially. In India, a large number of people suffer from cancer and heart related diseases. However, the awareness is very low in the society. Hence, it is needed to educate people on the prevalent diseases by preparing or get prevention with the right kind of proactive precautionary approach, she added.
