IMPHAL, March 25: The Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasillol Apuba Lup, Kangleipak (MEELAL) has decided to impose a ban on all local newspapers by April first week for their failure to use Meetei Mayek widely, as per the agreement made with All Manipur Working Journalist Union (AMWJU) in the year 2005.

The agreement was to incrementally introduce more news column in Meetei Mayek each per year.

This ban caution was served by general secretary, Paonum Thakaba Meetei at a press conference held today at MEELAL office.

He further said that even though an agreement was made with AMWJU, newspapers still fail to take up steps to make the change till date. If the AMWJU does not take up any further steps to ensure the change happens by the end of March, MEELAL will impose the ban, he added.

He stated that by the first week of April MEELAL will begin inspections, and collect keys and registration certificates of newspapers which fail to use Meetei Mayek in the right proportion.
