NEC sanction 5,75.98 crore for Oklong water project

KANGPOKPI, Mar 30: After years of undeterred lobbying and intervention from individuals and elected members, North East Council (NEC) has sanction Rs. 5,75.98 with accorded administrative approval for `composite water supply scheme of Oklong in Manipur`.

According to Liangmei Sports Association (LSA), the said project was finally approved by the Secretary, NEC in exercise of the financial powers delegate by the Govt. of India, Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region Vide September, 2012 to be implemented under public Health engineering Department Govt. of Manipur.

It may be noted that, the Liangmei Sport Association had organized a mega sports Mela at Oklong on January 10, 2012 for Liangmai Community of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland whereby 40 teams took part in the mega event attended by the then UK Sangma (NEC Secretary) as the chief guest on request by Liangmai Aports Association president R Machundoubou.

The then NEC Secretary promised to sanction for water supply for the said village namely Oklong, Maryram, Oklong Khunou and surrounding areas.

The event was also witnessed by the then GOC, Major Gen Binoy Poonnen (57th mountain Division), Ram Muivah, Principal Secretary, Work (GoM), Sanjay Sharma, Managing Director (Satyam Industries), President Zeliangrong Baudi Raitu Chawang.

Acknowledging the tremendous support of RD and PR Minister Francis Ngajokpa the Liangmei Sports Association stated that the Minister had closely followed up the project since Oklong is under his assembly constituency.

In this regard a meeting has been convened for the central executive committee of Liangmei sports association to follow up the same.
