IMPHAL, March 26: The Union Ministry of Textile has promised to provide artisan cards for state artisans within one month.
These cards are to be issued by the DC Handicraft of Manipur.
A BJP Mahila Morcha official said, the Mahila workers submitted a memorandum to draw the attention of the minister to the inaction of the current DC Handicraft saying the office takes as much as six months to issue these cards and that its programmes and schemes are mainly there to be taken advantage of by NGOs. The memorandum called upon the minister to monitor this office closely.
The memorandum also drew the attention of the minister that 70 percent of the people of Manipur do not know what the Department of Commerce and Industries Manipur has been doing for the last decade in Manipur.
People were kept ignorant of the schemes and programmes of Textile Department in Manipur, it said.
It further mentioned that the Industries Centres in all the district of State are defunct.
