IMPHAL, March 1: The third edition of the Manipur Fashion Extravaganza, which aims to unveil the State`™s handloom design as a tribute to the weavers, will be organised on May this year at Imphal Hotel. This was stated today by Robert Naorem, who is organising the event at a press conference at Classic Hotel.

He stated that the aim of organising the event is to highlight the traditional items, mainly to promote the weavers of Manipur who are facing difficulties in finding a market to sell their products. Hopefully, there will be a drastic change if the event becomes successful, he added.

During the event, renowned industry figures such as Aslam Khan (Mumbai), Jayanti Balla (Karnataka), Ashikur Rehman (Bangaladesh), Arshi Jamal (Luknow) will be present.

Exposing well known designers across the country to the textiles made by Manipuri handlooms is the main vision of the third edition of the Manipur Fashion Extravaganza, he said, adding `this will bring a better market to connect our product to other parts of the world.`

He further said that the show will witness top professional models of the country, showcasing the State`™s traditional cloths to the crowd while celebrities and beauty queens will also take part as show stoppers. He added that there will be a handloom expo stalls for weavers to sell their cloths.

Former Miss World runners up, Parvathy Omnakuttan said there is a need to promote the culture and traditions of the N-E region and the government must fully cooperate in its promotion because it has a big role to play.

Parvathy said that there is a need to bring North Eastern states to the forefront in terms of beauty and nature.

She also lauded the works and the initiative taken up by Rober Naorem to organise a successful event.
