IMPHAL, April 27: The 16th Malesana meitrabak Loushinkhiba Ningshing Luplen (MAMLOUNIL) memorial day was held at the Rupmahal Theatre, BT Road here today.

A two minutes silence was observed as a mark of respect to the heroes of Anglo-Manipuri war during the function.

Delivering the keynote address at the function, founder chairman of Meitei Layeng and president of MAMLOUNIL Dr N Ibohal Meitei stated that the day is being observed every year to pay homage and tribute to the brave sons of Manipur, who made supreme sacrifices for their motherland.

The day is observe with the objective to inspire and motivate the people of the State especially the youth to imbibe the sense of self sacrifice, patriotism and bravery of our forefathers who had the indomitable and unconquerable spirit to challenge even the mighty British army, he said.

During the function, monetary help, certificates and shawls were also distributed to differently abled persons and young widows.

The function was also attended by Veterinary director Dr Saroja, former secretary general International Human Rights and chief advisor MAMLOUNIL LM Meetei and Padmashri Dr M Kriti as dais members.
