IMPHAL, April 27: After much anticipation, Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) test on the eight human skulls and skeletons which were found during digging work at the erstwhile compound of Tombisana High School, Old Assembly Road on December 25 and 26 will be conducted.
Reports said the DNA test will be conducted after the completion of the inquest work and post mortem examination on the human remains being conducted by Department of Forensic Science Medicine of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) following an order issued by District Magistrate, Imphal West in connection with the stunning recovery that has shocked the state.
Notably, the DNA test is to be conducted to establish identity of the recovered human skulls and skeletons which were of different sizes.
In absence of DNA laboratory in the State, task of the test will be entrusted to Central Forensic Science Laboratory based in Kolkata or to any other competent laboratory outside the state.
After the completion of the DNA test on the human skulls and other human remains, blood samples of family members of those persons whose whereabouts are to be ascertained till yet after they were pulled up by security forces, will be sent to the concerned laboratory for conducting DNA test.
Forensic experts will closely examine results of the DNA test on the human remains and samples of the family members to see whether they match each other, the reports maintained.
Mention may be made here that following the recovery of the human skulls and skeletal remains from the former compound of the school during excavation by PWD for construction of a market shed for woman, Human Rights Initiatives (HRI), Palace Compound in Imphal East and Families of Involuntary Disappeared Association Manipur (FIDAM) published details of the 24 persons who had gone missing after they were pulled up by security forces from different places.
Three Executive Magistrates of Imphal West District are attending the ongoing post mortem examination on the human remains on rotational basis. Investigation Officers of City Police Station are also assisting Forensic experts in the inquest work and post mortem examination.
