Heart ailments screening camp held

THOUBAL, April 4: The Manipur Heart Foundation and Sky Hospital in collaboration with Eastern Youth Club, Wangjing, Thoubal has organised a one day Free Heart Screening and Check-Up for children under 13 at Wangjing Hodamba Awang Leikai Community Hall today.

Speaking on the aim of the camp, Managing Director of Sky Hospital, Dr. L. Shyamkumar has said that due to ignorance by the parents, children suffering from heart diseases are not consulted with doctors which has led to the death of many children. The camp is organised to prevent not only heart diseases but any kind of diseases, said the Managing Director.

He further said that Sky Hospital and Manipur Heart Foundation will take all responsibility in curing children with hole in the heart or break down of heart valves. He also stated that with cooperation from Manipur Heart Foundation, the hospital has cured children born with a hole in the heart or heart diseases with instruments that can be used without undergoing surgery.

Suggestion has also been taken up to provide Air Ambulance. The Heart Foundation can be notified by anyone who has a heart problem. Facilities are also provided for implantation of pacemaker for free, said Shyamkumar.

Visiting Specialist, Dr. S. Radhakrishnan also said that heart check up should be made for children in order to prevent any unfortunate incidents in the future.

It may be mentioned that of the 198 children whose screening was done, 12 children were detected with hole in the heart.

Advices were given for further treatment and necessary medicines were also distributed for free.
