Main building of Kakching Higher Secondary School collapses

IMPHAL, April 24: In absence of quality maintenance in the construction of Kakching Higher Secondary School which was constructed in 2009 at an estimated cost of Rs 2 crore under ACA Scheme, first and second floor of the school main building have collapsed.

Informing this in a press release issued on Friday, Th Babloo Singh, general secretary of Students`™ Union of Kakching Higher Secondary School lamented that pillars made of woods have been used to give support to the worn out beams used in the construction of the school and slabs on top of the school building have been leaking water, affecting normal class in the school.

The heavy thunderstorm that swept across the state on April 22 evening also blown away roofing sheets used in covering stair of the building, he rued.

Announcing that the students`™ union will halt further conduct of class in the school as the school building may collapse any time, he urged the concerned Minister and Department to repair the deplorable school building at the earliest failing which the union will launch different forms of agitation.
